At Saatchi & Saatchi there was a time when 7 ‘Steves’, including myself, worked there.
To avoid confusion (it was rife), I was gifted the title: Stevie May.
It’s followed me ever since.
CD. Copywriter. That’s me.
Played with many of the big brands (and not so big).
At the biggest agencies, such as Deloitte Digital, Saatchis, The Monkeys, DDB, Wunderman Thompson, Innocean, White Grey, Bastion. And the not so big agencies.
Written everything from banks (including Westpac, St George, NAB and Commbank) to cars, phones, beer, fashion, fitness, betting, telcos, broadcasters, chocolate, government, football leagues, and healthcare.
All this across every channel imaginable: digital (including CRM, social, SEO, UX, websites, EDMs) TV, outdoor, cinema, activation, radio, sponsorship, print, PR,…the lot.
I’ve led and nurtured creative teams, and an agency (CD of Spark44 ensuring the Land Rover and Jaguar brands stayed in their lanes).
And had several clients in tears when I’ve left gigs (mournful tears, not happy tears, just to be clear).
Picked up gongs at Cannes, D&AD, One Show, Spikes, Clio and AWARD.
I’ve also spent time on the client side of the fence, charged with the marketing for a major Queensland industrial company while co-running a speedway championship and producing a motorsport TV show.
Currently freelancing.
Looking for a more permanent residence back on the agency side of the fence.
Like I say in my LinkedIn profile:
Great campaigns are Jason Bourne.
Thrifty, graceful - programmed to think one step ahead - minimal words needed to get their point across. And when the time is right, take out the eye of the competition with single a pen.
They're my favourite things to write, nurture, then set loose on the world.
